Less logging. More living.

Most calorie counter apps
feel like spreadsheets.

Searching for every ingredient, estimating portions, and logging every meal takes too much effort. That’s why most people quit calorie tracking within a few days. BetterCal removes the friction instead of adding features.

How it works

Three steps. Then it gets faster.

1

Say it or type it

“Two eggs, three rotis and dal.” Speak it into the app or write it down like a note. There is no search box to fight and no portion picker to scroll.

2

AI does the nutrition

BetterCal reads what you wrote, works out each food and quantity, and fills in calories, protein, carbs and fat. You can correct anything in a tap.

3

It remembers

Meals you eat often are saved automatically. The next time around they are a single tap — and repeat meals never use an AI credit.

Voice logging

Talk naturally.
No special commands.

Describe your meal out loud. BetterCal listens, understands, and turns it into a clear log with calories and macros — several dishes in one recording.

Journal logging

Type like a note.
Calories appear as you go.

Write what you ate the way you’d text a friend. BetterCal fills in the nutrition without you searching a database or weighing anything.

Built for how you actually eat

It knows what a roti is.

Most calorie counter apps are built around a Western food database, so home-cooked and regional meals turn into a guessing game. BetterCal estimates against the way food is actually cooked and served where you live — the ingredients, the cooking fats, the serving vessel, the portion size.

Log “dal, two rotis and a cup of chai” and you get a sensible answer, not three failed database searches. Set your diet once — including vegetarian and eggetarian — and suggestions follow it.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is BetterCal free?

BetterCal is free to download and free to start. You get 20 AI meal logs per day at no cost, and meals you have already logged — saved meals and anything in your food memory — are always free to log again, however many times you repeat them.

Do I need to take photos of my food?

No. BetterCal has no camera and no photo scanning. You log by speaking or typing. Photo estimation guesses at what is on the plate and at how much of it there is; describing the meal in your own words removes both guesses.

Does BetterCal work with Indian food?

Yes. BetterCal estimates calories against the eating habits, ingredients, cooking fats and portion sizes of your country rather than a single Western food database, so roti, dal, chai, paneer and other home-cooked dishes work as normal entries. Vegetarian and eggetarian diets are supported directly.

How accurate are the calorie estimates?

They are estimates, and BetterCal says so plainly in the app. The trade-off is deliberate: a close estimate you actually record every day is far more useful than a precise number you stop entering after a week. You can edit any food, and your corrections are remembered for next time.

Is there a barcode scanner?

No. Barcode scanning only helps with packaged food, and most people eat plenty of meals that never had a barcode. Typing or saying the product name covers packaged food without the extra step.

Can I log calories by voice?

Yes. Tap the microphone, describe the meal out loud, and BetterCal transcribes and logs it with calories and macros. One recording covers several dishes at once.

Does it sync with Apple Health or Health Connect?

Yes. BetterCal reads steps and active calories burned from Apple Health on iPhone and Health Connect on Android, and can import your weight so you do not have to enter it twice.

Is BetterCal available on iPhone?

BetterCal is available on Android through Google Play today. The iPhone version is on its way to the App Store — the download buttons here will point to it as soon as the listing is live.

How is this different from a normal calorie counter?

Most calorie counters are built around a food database that you search: type a query, choose from a list of similar entries, set a serving size, repeat for every item. BetterCal has no search box at all. You describe the meal in one sentence and the AI resolves it, which is dramatically faster for home-cooked and regional food.

What are Cal Credits?

A Cal Credit is used when the AI has to work out a food it has not seen from you before, or when you record a voice log. You get 20 per day. Saved meals, foods already in your memory, renaming an entry and adjusting a quantity never cost a credit.
