Where to start

Which one do you actually need?

Most people need two numbers and then nothing else: how many calories to eat, and how much protein. Everything else on this page is context.

The honest bit

Calculators are the easy part.

Every number on this page is a population estimate applied to one person. They are good starting points and poor final answers. What turns them into something useful is two or three weeks of actually recording what you eat, then adjusting against your own weight trend.

That second part is where nearly everyone stops — not because the maths was wrong, but because logging four database searches per meal is tedious enough to abandon by the second week.

That is the specific problem BetterCal was built to remove. You say or type the meal in plain words and it is recorded, and meals you repeat are one tap.
